Tacet Privacy Policy

Effective 20 August 2026

Tacet is a teleprompter that scrolls your script by following your voice. This policy describes everything the app does with data. It is short because the app collects almost nothing.

What we collect: nothing

Tacet has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. We never receive your scripts, your voice, your recordings, or any information about you. Speech recognition is performed by your platform's own service, as described below.

Your scripts

Your scripts are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded anywhere.

Your voice

When you start reading, Tacet uses the system speech-recognition service to follow you. With the current version, that means audio captured while the prompter is listening is processed by Apple's speech-recognition servers (on iPhone/iPad) or Google's speech services (on Android) to produce a live transcript. This processing is performed by Apple or Google under their privacy policies. Tacet does not send that audio anywhere else, and keeps no copy of it — except a take you choose to record yourself (see Recordings below). The microphone is active only while you have started reading; it stops when you stop or leave the prompter screen.

Recordings

Recording a take is optional and always starts with your own action. If you record one, the resulting file is written to storage on your device and listed inside the app. It is never uploaded: the app has no servers to upload it to. A recording leaves your device only when you share or export it yourself through the standard system share sheet, and then it goes wherever you send it. Deleting a take in the app deletes the file from your device.

Transcripts

Transcripts are matched against your script on your device and are not saved. The app keeps only a rolling buffer of roughly the last 50 recognized words in memory while a take runs; it is discarded when the take ends or the app closes.

Permissions

Microphone and speech recognition are requested only when you first start reading. If you decline, the app tells you why the microphone is needed and remains usable as a manual prompter: your script stays on screen and you can tap any word to move the reading position. Only the voice-following stops.

Children

Tacet is not directed at children. We collect no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If a future version ever collects or transmits anything to us, this policy will say so plainly before that version ships.
